COVID-19 Pandemic: Exchange of best practices workshop hosted by the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection in Athens
On April 12, 2022, a valuable exchange of best practices and experience on civil protection aspects took place, within a COVID-19 management-related workshop which was hosted, in hybrid form, by the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Athens, in the frame of the Athens SEECP Chairmanship-in-Office 2021-2022.
The seminar focused mainly on the coordinated management of the COVID-19 pandemic from the aspect of civil protection and the synergies between the various stakeholders. Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Mr. Stylianides, in his welcoming speech, emphasized that the pandemic left no one unaffected. He highlighted the need for synergies in order to reduce the spread of the virus and improve the treatment, stressing the need to increase citizens’ awareness and the benefits of the vaccination process. He also noted the solidarity shown by the EU and the relevant Civil Protection Mechanisms and underlined the strengthening of rescEU.
All SEECP members were invited to participate and share their response to the pandemic through the prism of health and civil protection; Ankara, Bucharest, Pristina, Podgorica, Tirana, and Zagreb presented their perspective in the operating framework, all mentioning that cooperation and preparedness are of pivotal importance for effective crisis management as well as that communication and public information play a key role in managing the pandemic.
Furthermore, a fruitful discussion followed among the participants, and a number of targeted questions were answered and clarified. The event ended with the Host thanking the participants for joining forces in seeking synergies as the appropriate way to address common challenges in a new global reality.
