3rd Balkan Forum - Thessaloniki 2021

The 3rd Balkan Forum took place on September 24-25, in a hybrid format. The title of this years’ Forum was "Sustainable development in the post-Covid era."


It was held at the Thessaloniki International Fair's "Ioannis Vellidis" Congress Centre and was organized by the Ministry of the Interior's Macedonia & Thrace department, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the context of the Athens Chairmanship of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).


The Forum aimed to capture the current level of economic, cultural, technological and environmental aspects of the various collaborations in the Balkans and South East Europe.


The items discussed were green entrepreneurship, sustainable development, circular economy, smart practices of cross-border cooperation, the role of innovation and new technologies in the development of infrastructures and networks for the new programming period 2021-2027, new perspectives - cohesion policies and development tools to strengthen interregional cooperation.


At the beginning of the Forum Government Representatives of SEECP participants extended opening greetings highlighting the importance of regional and European cooperation.


The Forum was addressed by the Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. M. Voridis, the Deputy Minister of Interior, S. Mr. Kalafatis, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Mr. K. Fragkogiannis, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Economic Affairs, Mr. I. Smirlis.
